Feb 2011, Shay Lane Football Stadium, Halifax.
The focus of the event was the raising of healthy lifestyle awareness in a hard to reach group i.e. middle aged men and designed to be taking place during a football match. We were fortunate to be invited to another initiative by the council run at the local football stadium, the Shay nicked named “Shaype Up”. We arranged to attend the second of a series of exercise classes organised and arranged for roughly 50 men on 11 2 2011. Members of BMFT including Dr Arif Kazi , Dr Paul Fourie, Dr DaveOsborne, Dr Tony Stone and and Dr Jon Zakrzewski delivered a half hour power-point assisted talk pitched at the level of the ordinary punter and discussed heart disease, diabetes, cancers, alcohol smoking, obesity and exercise. 5 stations were set up to measure blood sugars, blood pressures; peak flows gave advice and distributed relevant leaflets. The event was well received and we discovered a couple of people with impaired glucose levels, borderline blood pressures, chaotic lifestyles and variable obesity! The feedback we received afterwards was indeed tremendous and participants seemed particularly enthused. We would like to thank BMI health for sponsoring the event as well as the Lee Ashforth from the Community football team for the opportunity
